This is exactly what I'm looking for: rough around the edges so you're not worried about driving it, but completely driveable.
I'd slowly start a sympathetic restoration, focusing mainly on refurbing/slightly updating mechanicals, and do a little interior and exterior touch up. Not the biggest MGA fan, but this one has me good.

This is a thing of beauty... Wow.

The engine looks mint :) very cool thing.
This would be one of the few situations when I'd advocate dropping a stonking great V8 into one of these.
Make it with cylinder deactivation so it sounds like a sickly 4-cylinder on part-throttle as well. Then boom, knarly V8 and SPEED!

Ha! I don't believe it! I think a Cossie BDA or something of the sort (cost notwithstanding) would be perfect under the hood. Or, even better, a Daimler 2.5 V8 or, most realistically, find a way to shove an XK6 under there.

Ooh, a BDA would be good, or even one of the more bonkers K-Series that Lotus produced for the Elise if you want to keep it MG.
A Daimler V8 is a brilliant idea as well. Absolute jewels of engines, and utterly criminal that they didn't find more use.
Yeah, I think the Daimler V8 is winning in this little scenario :)

One of my good friends bought one in December and is getting it ready for spring. I think it is a 1958. Bit better shape than that one. Spending a lot of time on the brakes and redoing the wheel bearings. He loves small convertables. He has gone from a Z3, to an Exige S(!) to the MGA. I have another friend who vintage races an MGB and they are just happy as clams tinkering on the cars each weekend.
